It all starts with Accel Basics!
New for the year 2000, Accel Basics addresses the needs of novice horsemen
who wish to participate in the Accel program but lack the basic skills
to participate in the Level One series. This seminar will enable each
participant to ride with confidence instead of apprehension, and with
a solid understanding of what is necessary for effective communication
with their horse.
Accel
Basics is a four-day, hands-on seminar. The emphasis during the first
two days is placed on specific ground work techniques that will enable
the novice rider to gain control over his horse. Subsequently, this work
will enable him to soften his horse's bridle responses and gently encourage
his horse to travel forward in a predictable and confident manner. The
next two days are spent re-enforcing this behavior as well as developing
the seat and hands of the rider, along with basic leg aids. Concepts covered
are:
- Basic Principles
- Anatomy and the collection process
- Leading your horse to create respect and gain control
- Preparing to lunge your horse
- Lunging
- Head and Tailing
- Bitting and lunging
- Easy long-lining
- The difference between a hold and a pull
- Finding and riding over your horse's center of gravity
- Moving with your horse to enable, rather than disable him
- Correct stops and correct turns through the use of leg yielding
- An introduction to arcs, and counter arcs
- Communication, both with yourself and with your horse
Participants who complete the work covered in Accel Basics are ready
for Level One.
