Other Seminars

A variety of different formats and topics are available to horse clubs, individual farms, or individual groups. From the list below, or by special request, an evening, half-day, full day, or multiple day presentation can be arranged that will be stimulating, informative, and enjoyable.

The other Seminars that are currently available are:

  1. The Equine Athlete and the Anatomy of Collection:
A lecture and demonstration that explains how the process of collection impacts precision riding - and how knowledge of equine anatomy can dramatically improve your horsemanship. This demonstration will enable all participants to reach a full understanding of the collection process and how a horse softens in the bridle. Each participant will learn to spot desirable conformation qualities for different disciplines, and evaluate how well a horse has been working by simply looking at the development of his musculature.
    Approximately 90-120 minutes.
  2. Principle-based training and riding:
How to use your horse's natural instincts and tendencies to help you obtain maximum performance with a minimum of stress. (Both to horse and rider!) A lecture and demonstration explaining the difference between traditional training and principle-based training. Included in this demonstration is an explanation of 16 "basic principles" designed to enable any rider or trainer to communicate with his/her horse in a manner that addresses his equine partner's own unique instincts. By addressing and taking into account the behavioral idiosyncrasies that define the horse as species "Equus", any rider or trainer will be able to utilize the "stimulus, response, reward" training system in a manner that is more readily "equine acceptable". Simply put, your training results will dramatically accelerate when your horse is busy saying "yes" to your requests, instead of " maybe, no, or absolutely not!"
  3. Horse evaluation:
A lecture/demonstration on how to more accurately evaluate any horse in order to determine it's potential as a Show or Working horse.
  4. Specific workshops on:
Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Country English Pleasure, English Pleasure, Park and 3-gaited, Driving, Halter Training, and starting the young horse.
  5. Show Horse management:
How to maintain a Show Horse, both physically and mentally, throughout a show year. Covers management of soundness, farrier work, feeding programs, planning your show year, and planning each show in order to have your Show Horse at his best when it counts.
  6. Communication between the horse - rider - trainer team:
A workshop designed to create excellent communication and teamwork between the professional trainer/instructor, the student, and the horse in order to produce efficient, productive, and confidence-building work sessions. Concepts covered are: Goal setting, lesson planning, and specific techniques to help the non-responsive rider to relax and achieve goals in a step-by-step manner.
